Blackburn and Kinellar Men’s Shed is holding a ‘Shed-Wise’ men’s health evening on Wednesday, October 21, open to all men in the village and surrounding area – you don’t have to be a Shed member to attend.
The evening event, running from 7:00pm till 9:30pm, will cover a range of health and wellbeing topics particularly relevant to “men of a certain age” with a presentation led by Brian McWilliam, the East Coast Development Officer for the Scottish Men’s Sheds Association (SMSA).
Through its Shed-Wise programme, the SMSA is promoting a much-needed shift in health and wellbeing for men across Scotland.
It comes from a recognition that men are statistically more likely to take risks with their health and wellbeing – including higher rates of alcohol and drug misuse, obesity, smoking and other poor lifestyle choices – which can lead to serious long-term consequences. Scotland’s men also face considerable health challenges such as rising mental health issues and a persistently high suicide rate.
Such in-Shed sessions are aimed at encouraging men to have voluntary and honest conversations about men’s health. They focus on key men’s health matters such as diabetes, heart health, alcohol and smoking risks, blood pressure, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm, dementia, cancer awareness and coping skills.
So come along to the Shed on October 21 to learn more – tea, coffee, sandwiches and biscuits will be available.
